This dress reinterprets the quintessential Korean court attire of the Chosun era through a daring subversion of tradition. The jacket, crafted from “forbidden” fabrics—faux fur and Art Deco velvet accented with faux leather trim—contrasts sharply with a single element of authenticity: a Korean silk ribbon tie. The skirt, a sumptuous blend of Art Deco silk and burgundy silk organza, deepens the dialogue between heritage and innovation. An animated steampunk hat, Egyptian-inspired makeup, and iconic steampunk boots introduce additional layers of enigma, further displacing familiar symbols from their conventional contexts. Here, every texture and detail is reassembled within an unfamiliar framework that demands attention. As these historical icons are extracted from their traditional settings, they invite us to ponder: can this radical recontextualization evoke a new poetic narrative?
