fabric, foam

20"w x 74"h x 20"d

This Hanbok dress reimagines “Ma Vie en Rose” through a collage of cultural fragments, weaving together disparate symbols into a cohesive yet provocative narrative. The jacket, fashioned from quintessential Chanel-inspired tweed, is enlivened by an animated front tie in a vibrant pink hue, setting the tone for the transformative reinterpretation. In contrast, the skirt is constructed from black tulle, intricately adorned with rose-patterned stitches that evoke both delicacy and rebellion. A striking rose headpiece, paired with glitter-infused pink disco makeup and iconic Mary Jane shoes, completes the ensemble, uniting the elements into a fresh “Pretty in Pink” statement. Here, traditional Korean aesthetics intersect with modern high-fashion and pop culture, creating a deliberate discord of clashing symbolism. The work challenges conventional boundaries by inviting viewers to explore the tension between inherited tradition and contemporary reinvention, ultimately posing a question: Can the beauty of dissonance give rise to a new poetic narrative?
