Set against the panoramic skyline of Westwood, Notes No.3 transforms the rooftop lounge of Gayley & Lindbrook into a quiet field of reflection through excerpts from A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens.
Passages such as “A wonderful fact to reflect upon…” and “It is a far, far better rest that I go to than I have ever known” are embedded throughout the space—etched into walls, wood, and surfaces of repose. The words become both architecture and atmosphere, guiding residents and visitors through moments of pause and contemplation.
By scattering these literary fragments across the site, the installation turns a modern communal terrace into an urban palimpsest—a place where narrative, memory, and environment overlap. The text, reframed outside its original context, takes on new resonances of duality and renewal, mirroring the view that stretches across the contrasting landscapes of the city.
In Notes No.3, language becomes spatial. Each phrase invites the viewer to inhabit thought, to stand between reading and being—to experience how words can shape not only meaning, but also place.
